SAP HANA database training

Understand the in-memory database behind modern SAP

Build a practical understanding of SAP HANA architecture, SQL and SQLScript, database objects, calculation views, data modelling, security and performance fundamentals.

Course overview

Learn how SAP HANA stores, processes and models business data

SAP HANA is an in-memory database platform used across SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA and analytics landscapes. This program explains the architecture and then builds practical skills in SQL, SQLScript and data modelling.

Participants work with schemas, tables and views, write analytical queries, and learn how calculation views turn raw data into business-ready information. Security, performance and operational fundamentals are covered so that learners understand how a HANA system is supported.

How the course is structured

  • Architecture and in-memory concepts first, so later exercises have context.
  • SQL and SQLScript practice with realistic data sets.
  • Calculation view and modelling exercises with review checkpoints.
  • Security, performance and monitoring discussions for support roles.
Environment: Demonstrations and exercises use a suitable SAP HANA training environment where available. Where system access is limited for a batch, trainer-led walkthroughs and guided modelling exercises are used.

Learning outcomes

What you should be able to do

Explain HANA architecture

Describe in-memory storage, column tables and how SAP applications use HANA.

Work with database objects

Create and manage schemas, tables, views and related objects.

Write SQLScript

Build queries, procedures and table functions with clear logic.

Model calculation views

Combine and transform data into reusable analytical models.

Apply security

Explain users, roles and object or analytic privileges.

Support performance

Review query and model performance and recognise common bottlenecks.

Practical work

Modelling and SQLScript exercises

  • Create a schema and tables for a small business data model.
  • Write analytical queries using joins, aggregation and window functions.
  • Build a stored procedure or table function with parameters.
  • Create a calculation view that combines multiple tables.
  • Review a slow query or model and propose improvements.
  • Document a simple security and backup checklist.
Certification preparation: Relevant SAP HANA certification topics can be included in the learning plan where applicable. We are not an official certification body and do not claim SAP accreditation. Official exams are booked separately with SAP.
Enrolment questions

SAP HANA training FAQ

Do I need SQL experience before joining?
Basic relational database and SQL awareness is recommended. If you are new to databases, we can suggest preparatory material or a longer pace before the modelling topics begin.
Is this course about HANA administration or development?
It covers development and modelling fundamentals with operational topics such as security, performance monitoring, backup and recovery concepts. It is not a full SAP HANA system administration certification program.
Do I need a SAP HANA system for practice?
Practical work uses a suitable training environment where available. If access is limited for a batch, trainer-led demonstrations and guided exercises are used, and you will receive the SQL and modelling scripts for review.
How does HANA relate to SAP Business One and S/4HANA?
HANA can be the database platform for SAP Business One and is central to SAP S/4HANA. The final module explains common support, reporting and collaboration scenarios across application and database teams.
Does this include certification?
The program includes preparation support for relevant certification topics where applicable. We are not an official certification body, and official exams are booked separately with SAP.
Can this be delivered for a corporate team?
Yes. Corporate programs can focus on SQLScript, calculation views, performance or support fundamentals, and can use your own data model and scenarios where appropriate.
