SAP ABAP advanced training

Advance into modern SAP development with ABAP, CDS, OData and RAP

Build on core ABAP and move into object-oriented design, enhancements, interfaces, CDS views, AMDP, OData services, RAP and S/4HANA-ready development. This is a separate course from SAP ABAP Core.

Course overview

Move from core ABAP to modern, scalable SAP development

This advanced course is for learners who already understand ABAP fundamentals and want to work with object-oriented design, extensibility, integration, CDS, OData, RAP and performance-aware development.

The course connects classic ABAP knowledge with the development model used in modern SAP landscapes. Topics are reinforced through coding exercises, integration scenarios, code reviews and an advanced project.

Advanced course focus

  • Object-oriented ABAP and maintainable class design.
  • Enhancements, BAdIs and extensibility options.
  • Interfaces, RFCs, BAPIs, IDocs and integration patterns.
  • CDS, AMDP, OData, RAP and S/4HANA readiness.
Prerequisite: Learners should complete SAP ABAP Core Training or demonstrate equivalent ABAP development experience before joining this course.

Learning outcomes

What you should be able to do

Design with OO ABAP

Build reusable classes and interfaces with clean exception handling.

Extend SAP safely

Use enhancements, BAdIs and append structures with upgrade awareness.

Build interfaces

Develop and troubleshoot RFC, BAPI and IDoc integration scenarios.

Model with CDS

Create CDS views with associations, parameters, annotations and authorizations.

Expose OData services

Create, register and test OData services for modern applications.

Apply RAP and readiness

Understand RAP business objects and assess S/4HANA custom code impact.

Practical work

Advanced exercises and project

Learners work through realistic development and modernization scenarios.

  • Refactor procedural ABAP into object-oriented classes.
  • Implement an enhancement and document the extension point.
  • Build and test an RFC or BAPI integration scenario.
  • Create a CDS view with associations and annotations.
  • Write an AMDP and compare it with classic ABAP logic.
  • Expose data through an OData service.
  • Build a RAP business object with validation and actions.
  • Run a custom code readiness review and complete an advanced project.
Course sequence: SAP ABAP Core and SAP ABAP Advanced are separate courses. Core is the recommended prerequisite; learners with equivalent experience can request a readiness discussion.
Enrolment questions

SAP ABAP advanced training FAQ

Can I join without core ABAP?
This is an advanced course. Learners should complete SAP ABAP Core Training or demonstrate equivalent ABAP development experience. If you are unsure, request a readiness discussion before enrolling.
How is this different from the core course?
Core ABAP covers fundamentals, Data Dictionary, internal tables, reports, dialogs and forms. Advanced ABAP covers object-oriented design, enhancements, interfaces, CDS, AMDP, OData, RAP, performance and S/4HANA readiness. They are separate courses.
Is this suitable for functional consultants?
Functional consultants with core ABAP knowledge can benefit, especially for debugging, enhancements, CDS and S/4HANA readiness. The course is technical and assumes ABAP development familiarity.
Do I need access to an SAP system for practice?
Practical work uses a suitable SAP ABAP training environment where available. Access, release level and available objects are confirmed before the batch begins.
Does this include certification?
The program includes preparation support for relevant certification topics where applicable. We are not an official certification body, and official exams are booked separately with SAP.
Can this be delivered for a corporate team?
Yes. Corporate programs can focus on OO ABAP, CDS, OData, RAP, performance or S/4HANA custom code readiness. Delivery is available online or onsite.
